Change The Trend: JusNice Interview [Audio]

A trend is pretty easy to follow. Just do what everybody else is doing and you don’t have to worry about any flow of resistance. To be a trendsetter, you have to forcibly break the current flow and start your own trend, style, or flow. JusNice is just that. JusNice got on the phone with us to talk about his stylings on the mic and why artists shouldn’t be encouraged to be the next version of a currently artist.

Justin “JusNice” Grant was born in the burrough of Brooklyn, New York but was raised in Jersey City, NJ. JusNice was already getting acclimated to music at a young age. He would listen to his mother play on the piano each day and was also a member of his local church choir. These things helped him tone his ears to the every power sound of music. At the age of 13, his mother decided to move back to South Carolina. JusNice with no fear in front and his confidence on his back, had no problem with the move and received it with open arms. In high school, JusNice was very well known in the group Camp 6. The group consisted of 5 other cousins and close friends that were all interested in hip-hop and rap. At the age of 18, JusNice was accepted to the Lander University studying in Business Administration and Marketing. Even though becoming an artist is a goal, JusNice proves that there is more to rap than just words and rhymes. “[Going to college] just broadened my prospective on life. I want to be intelligent enough to realize what I’m getting myself into.” This knowledge has helped blossom his horizons in the game.

Even though rapping is a career that JusNice wants to pursue, don’t expect him to take every line too seriously. “I’m usually joking and having fun, and that is what life is all about.” Also, JusNice takes the ideals of Michael Jackson by letting the music carry the song. “Usually I just feel the music…I let the beat speak for itself.” This attitude has encouraged him to write music that he has on his heart and not music that is based on the trend. JusNice knows that some of his music may not be the biggest hit in the club, but what you will get is 100% of JusNice in his music regardless of the time of day.

Going into the next decade of 2010, music is starting to redefine itself and JusNice is looking to cash in on an unstable market. “People are following the wrong trends instead of the right trends. People are only going to allow certain amounts of [repetitive] music,” JusNice explains. “They are trying to be the next Soulja Boy or the next Gucci.” JusNice also believes that the A&Rs are having a major influence on the industry as well. “A&R knows what they talking about half of the time…but it is your consumer who will make or break you.”

JusNice proves that he is just that. With an intelligent and fun flow that is one of a kind, JusNice is aiming to put a stamp on the game. JusNice is here JusInTime…
